The honest version

What a lab-grown diamond actually is

A lab-grown diamond is carbon crystallised under the same conditions as a mined diamond, in weeks rather than millennia. It is a diamond — 10 on the Mohs scale, identical optically and chemically — and a gemologist can't tell the two apart without lab equipment. IGI and GIA grade both on the same 4Cs scale.

The difference is origin, price, and resale. Lab-grown is much cheaper to buy and, like all jewellery, worth less second-hand. We'd rather tell you that here than have you find out later.

Common questions

Lab-grown diamonds, answered

Yes. Chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds, and certified by the same laboratories to the same standards.
No. It is diamond; it behaves exactly like a mined diamond for life. The setting, not the stone, is what needs an occasional check — covered by our lifetime warranty.
Both are trusted. IGI grades the majority of lab-grown stones worldwide and is the industry standard for them; GIA also grades lab-grown. We stock both and explain the report line by line. GIA vs IGI explained.
Lab-grown prices have fallen as production has scaled, and all jewellery depreciates second-hand. Buy a stone you love and wear it; an IGI-certified lab-grown diamond in a hallmarked Diamond Hub ring always has clear, documented provenance.
Yes, on the same basis as any ring; we supply a valuation with every purchase. Engagement ring insurance guide.
Yes — that's the point of the consultation. Our Leicester and Edgware showrooms both keep comparison stones.
