Emerald Cut Engagement Rings

The emerald cut is a step cut: long, parallel facets arranged like a hall of mirrors. Instead of the scattered sparkle of a brilliant, it gives broad flashes of light and a calm, architectural look that suits art deco, vintage and minimalist designs alike.

Choosing an emerald cut diamond

Those open facets show more of what is inside the stone, so clarity and colour matter more than with a round brilliant. Many buyers aim for VS2 clarity or better and a G colour or higher, then judge the stone by eye. A length-to-width ratio of around 1.40 to 1.50 gives the classic rectangular outline. Every centre stone comes with a GIA or IGI certificate.

Settings that suit an emerald cut

Our Collet pairs an emerald cut centre with brilliant-cut diamond shoulders, available in 18K white gold or platinum. Emerald cuts also work well as a solitaire, a trilogy with tapered baguettes, or East-West. For a squarer step cut, see the Asscher cut.
