Oval Engagement Rings

An oval diamond is a brilliant cut stretched into an elegant ellipse. Because more of the stone's surface faces up, an oval looks larger than a round diamond of the same carat weight, and its length draws the eye along the finger for a slimmer, more graceful look on the hand.

Choosing an oval diamond

Most buyers prefer a length-to-width ratio between about 1.35 and 1.50: shorter ovals look fuller, longer ones more dramatic. Look closely for the "bow-tie", a darker band across the middle that every oval has to some degree. A well-cut stone keeps it faint, so it's worth seeing the actual diamond, or a video of it, before you commit. Every centre stone comes with a GIA or IGI certificate.

Settings that suit an oval

A four-claw solitaire like our Marina keeps the outline clean and lets the most light into the stone. Ovals also work beautifully in a halo, a hidden halo, an East-West setting or as the centre of a trilogy. Choose lab-grown or natural, in 18K white, yellow or rose gold or platinum.
